Draft 3

The story follows Adam as he goes through his daily routine, at home and at university. He works hard but keeps to himself. When he interacts with others he appears anxious and nervous, and often excuses himself from conversation. He avoids crowds and groups of loud people, and often feels anxious when around them. He sees a random boy using an inhaler and he starts becoming anxious as well. Most days he spends in solitude. Particular attention is paid to his facial expressions as the film progresses.

The story continues in this manner until one day while walking, he stops and sees someone he recognizes. His friend Daniel. Suddenly tense and anxious, he turns back and walks off hurriedly, and goes into the washroom to collect himself. He tries to calm himself down and goes back to class. All the while tense and alert.

He starts seeing Daniel again and again. His friend is always on the other end of the hallway, the classroom, the hall or the other side of the road. But he's always in the distance, staring at Adam silently. Adam never approaches his friend and always tries to avoid eye contact. As time passes by, sightings of Daniel become more and more frequent and Adam's state of mind slowly deteriorates as his paranoia develops. He grows even more distant and tries to spend the entirety of his time alone. Eventually it gets to a point where Adam breaks down and a flashback ensues.

The story cuts to the past, following Adam and Daniel's friendship.  The story at this points focuses on their close, almost brotherly bond. They're inseparable best friends. They hang out, play video games and joke loudly together. They often play pranks on one another. They've known each other since they were kids. One day while hanging out at home, Adam pulls a prank on Daniel by hiding his bag and his things. Daniel starts looking around for it and the two start exchanging lively banter. The story takes a serious downturn however when Daniel starts panicking and starts to suffer an asthma attack, and desperately looks for his inhaler. Now starting to worry, Adam starts looking as well but forgot where he put Daniel's inhaler. The situation gets worse as Daniel and starts chocking. Adam finally finds the inhaler and returns to his friend in the living room; who has collapsed on the floor. Adam panics and starts to ring the ambulance, all the while the camera focuses on Daniel and slowly fades to black.

The story cuts back to the present and Adam is seen alone at night, looking out over a balcony. His friend's bag in hand, he leans closer and closer to the balcony railing, and constantly looks to the ground below. Feeling the growing urge to jump, he starts to climb and stops. A moment passes, and the camera focuses on his face as a whirlwind of expressions cross his face. Many seconds spent in silence pass as the camera focuses on him from the back.

He stops climbing and sits on the ground, looking over the skyline. He sighs, buries his hands in his face and starts sobbing softly. The camera slowly pans from him upwards towards the city as the screen fades.
