We watched a variety of short films and commercials and analyzed how they shot their scenes, setup their cameras and organized the story. Lalin was a particularly long one, and used flashbacks.

Work Processes

'Vision' theme exploration

Below are an assortment of different characters that could be the subjects of the various above themes.

  • Ambition A driven young-man who just started first year at business school. He's got lots of plans for the future and is intent on being the best at what he does. In spite of that, his ambitious nature and self-centered character could traits that pull him down.
  • Hope An uneducated yet intelligent little girl born to a poor family, with dreams of breaking out of the cycle of poverty and becoming a schoolteacher. She's looking to bring about a change in her downtrodden community, and hopefully one for the better.
  • The Future A former delinquent and troublemaker, a young man decides to turn his life around and embark on a journey to change his life for the better and shed his old ways. 
  • Spirituality A rebellious, youngster who starts doubting his life-long faith embarks on a religious pilgrimage to find out what spirituality and faith really means to him.
  • Psychology A troubled woman with a history of violence and abuse starts to feel the world close in around her as she starts to remember the past and the thinks she did. Demons and hallucinations haunt her as she grips with fear and guilt.
  • Perspective A former freedom fighter returns to his old hometown in the hopes of rekindling the past. Instead he is faced with a disheartening realization that the side he chose during the war may not have been the right one. 
I also came up with a Pinterest Moodboard to store my visual ideas for vision.

Mr. Martin liked the various characters I created, and said I should narrow down even more the rough story line as well as the characters.

The general consensus was that typography was essentially the art of text, and how text could be made into art and deliver a message. 30/5/17 - 6/6/17, Week 9 - Week 10 Kamal Afiq [0330643] Typography and Hypertextuality Project 2 Font Design Lecture Notes Week 9 We didn't have a traditional lecture this week. In class we focused our efforts on further developing our fonts; digitization, fixing errors, etc. We reviewed our progress and gave us feedback on the work we had completed so far. Week 10 We were not given a theoretical lecture this week. Instead Mr. Vinod gave us a lecture/demonstration on how to use FontLab Studio. He talked us through how to setup the font parameters; e.g. Ascender and Cap height. He also taught us how to transfer our glyphs from Illustrator to Fontlab, and how to carry out letterspacing and kerning on our font. He also taught us how to generate the font for use.
